Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to Dynamat? If not, does anyone exactly how much Dynamat costs?

After checking my local carstereo shop out I deemed it too expensive to experiment with, I had good luck with thin chipped foam carpet padding material, used RTV silicone to attach it to the interior and it worked pretty well...

Oh yeah it cost me less then 50¢ a square foot

I am assuming you get that carpet padding at a carpet store? RTV silicone at a hardware or auto store?

Thanks http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, the mentioned places would have that.

Carpet padding:
Carpet stores (ask if they have remnants or scraps.. maybe you can snag some for free), HomeDepot type stores.

RTV Silicone: Auto parts stores, hardware stores, HomeDepot type stores

It's all pretty cheap.

Both www.partsexpress.com (http://www.partsexpress.com) and www.mcmelectronics.com (http://www.mcmelectronics.com) sell generic "Dynamat". It is identical except there is no name printed on it. You can buy the same stuff from www.mcmastercarr.com (http://www.mcmastercarr.com) where it is known as "high temperature mastic".

What about the black sponge like stuff you might find on the back of a cheap vinyl placemat? Its a thin easily damaged spongy material almost a carbon black color? I think it is also used on realy bad mousepads. Someone out there must know what this is? I'm going to look around a few material shops see what kind of backings they have....
