Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : how do I span a winrar file across floppies? doctj 01-31-2001, 11:43 AM help much appreciated King_Kooba_Fantastique 01-31-2001, 11:48 AM I guess you would have to use a program to break it up into multiple units small enough to fit on floppies. Im trying to remember the name of a piece of software that does this, hate it when i cant find the links i've saved. I'll post back once i have found it (or maybe someone will do the same in the meantime). KKF. OuTpaTienT 01-31-2001, 11:53 AM I'm not sure that your can. The way I'd go about it is to use WinRAR to compress to a multi-part archive. You can specify in WinRAR the size parts you want to make. So if going to floppy, I'd make a multi-part archive with the part sizes less than 1.44mb. If this option is not obvious in WinRAR just check it's help, you're bound to find it. Rat 01-31-2001, 03:06 PM I use File Shredder to do that type of task, it's a freeware proggy.... http://www.kazusoft.pair.com/software/shredder/ Rat... Dave_H 01-31-2001, 06:02 PM If you start the archive on a floppy then WinRar will automatically span it for you. As soon as the first disk is full it will prompt you for the next. Open WinRar and select the file or folder you want to compress by browsing thru the bottom box until it is highlighted. Click the button "Add", then in the top box "archive", select the A drive. Hope that helps. Dave hhh8785 02-01-2001, 08:02 AM I did it once to get a setup file from another person. It was too big for one floppy so he took the setup and broke it up, put it on floppies, and gave the setup file to me on three floppies. I don't use winrar much, in fact i only used it that once. All I really remember doing was putting the three broken files onto my HDD and doing something like running WinRAR and picking those three files in winrar and it put them together and i installed it. If I think of anything else more specific I'll let you know. Illegal Alien 02-01-2001, 11:27 AM There's a great program called 'Split Magic' that splits files into as many pieces as you want. You can get it from here www.Hotfiles.com (http://www.Hotfiles.com) (i'm to lazy to find the specific page!) doctj 02-01-2001, 07:41 PM In archiving I used the volume option, on the drop down there's a choice for archiving in 1.44 mb volumes. That's why I love winRAR it's such an awesome utility. Thanks for the advice guys. SysOpt.com
