I have a computer that sings happy birthday on startup immediatly after the power is turned on. I read the discussion from 1999 about a virus that starts when the machine starts to boot. I've got it, again. A year ago one of our office people had this happen for a day or so and then it stopped. Yes, it was around her birthday so we figured someone sent her an infected e-mail. We scanned for virus and cleaned harddrive. End of story (or so I thought) Since that time I've replaced that hard drive and completly reformated the old hard drive. I then installed the old hard-drive in another computer in the office. Today it started to sing happy birthday continuously. No, it isn't her birthday. I've disconnected the speaker to keep her from going crazy but need to find out what to do. The earlier discussion considered lots of options, and the bios virus seems the most likely suspect. It seems to me that the original virus might have been spread to other computers in the office via shared files on a central computer, by E-mail between personel, or in the boot sector of the hard drive. I am semi computer literate and can trouble shoot OK but the solution for this is over my head. Is there a virus check for the CPU and/or bios chips? Both the computers have identical motherboards. Am I wrong in thinking a complete hard-drive reformat will remove any viruses on the hard drive? Any help would be appreciated.
