Hello Everyone,

I have a 6yr old P90 PC that I don't know what to do with. My original intention was to network it 3yrs ago with my 400 PC but that never happened. It has 64mb RAM and a 1gig hard drive.

Any suggestions on what to do with it other than put it in a museum? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Have some fun a put Linux or something on it. Make your own webserver. Make a dedicated gaming server (if you have the connection) P90 should be enough if you keep the limit under 10. Give it to someone who dosen't have/can't afford their own machine. Use power tools on it and relieve stress (put out the ram and hd first!) Continue your original plan and network it. Overclock is as far as it will go. Rub your feet on carpet and ESD it. Put it in your bathroom with internet so you will always be online. Anything else?

Well, if you know someone who could really use a computer and is too poor to get a new one, I think it would be really noble to give it to them. Otherwise, you could donate it to a children's center. The one I used to volunteer at had one computer, and it was in the main office so none of the kids really got to play on it.

If you wanted to put some use to it for yourself, you could turn it into a dedicated MP3 player or file server.

A Pentium 90 ought to overclock nicely to 120mhz.

The 64mb ram will run a lean version of Win98 fine too.

I did a couple last spring , well P100's, to 120 and they ran very well.

Get IE eradicator to remove the internet explorer integration from 98 and if you have it put in the win95 disc and let it grab the win95 explorer.

Makes a rocket out of a otherwise slow machine.

I use a $10.00 secondary hard drive to put IE 5.0 or 5.5 on to keep buggies from corrupting the OS.

Be sure to put a Socket7 style cooling fan/heat sink on it($12.00) to keep things nice and cool.

There is a lot of life left in a GENERIC system running the old Pentium processors.

However, a Compaq, Hewlett Packard, IBM etc all have so much **** that loads on start-up that they are doomed.

The factory machines like this sometimes limit your ability to disable start up items in msconfig.

Tune it up and sell it or donate it.

I put a scanner and printer on the one we donated to an injured employee and his daughter commented as to how fast it was.
When I told her it was "only" a 100, she said "NO WAY"

btw, I didn't do the IE Eradicator thingy on this one.. and it still ran great http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

LOTS of Luck
