hey there everyone. i know most have probably heard this before but i'm still in search of a cd-rom drive that has high speed Digital Audio Extraction (DAE) rates. I have an Intel Celeron MMX 336Mhz processor, HP CdWriter Plus 9350i 10x IDE Drive, and 64mb SDRAM. I need a cd-rom drive that will give me a steady DAE rate of about 8-10x with my current system. I need to make high quality audio cds. I've tried a bunch of drives and none of them have done what i need them to do. Also, I'm not interested in SCSI drives. If anyone can help me out with this it would be very greatly appreciated. Thank you...

The new TDK/PLEX/IOMEGA/CREATIVE LABS 12x10x32 all do 32X DAE. I haven't used it too much for that, but the few rips I did were of good quality. It only hit 32x around the outer tracks, but the inner tracks still moved pretty quick.

thanks for the reply Gomer. but i'm not really in the market for another $200 cdr drive. I'm looking for a cd-rom drive with good DAE capabilities (10x) for use with my current HP 9350i CDWriter. Thanks again...

Plextor, TDK, Sanyo, are 3 that would meet your specs. but you pay for it. Check www.cdrinfo.com (http://www.cdrinfo.com) for DAE specs. on various drives. You'll have to dig a little but they've got the lowdown on most rom drives.

the Asus 40x and 50x will do dae at at least 17x (yes, 16x burning is possible)
the Aopen latest drives will go as high as 30x
same for the Affreys.
All the above cost less than $50.

I have found the 50x asus VERY reliable. No clicks or pops since I installed it. It would also be fast enough for you. I have heard that the Afrey drives are also very reliable & faster than the asus drive where DAE is concerned
This is a slow link but it will answer ALL your questions.

I had the same problem writing to my Plexwriter 12/10/32.
I asked the same question here a month ago and got some great advice. I ended up buying the teac 540-E and after doing the driver update from the teac site I am getting 30X DAE.
