Hello once again,

I'm going to be getting an A-Bit KR7A and I've decided to go for the Duron 1.2GHz processor.

The first release of the BIOS for the motherboard apparently has a problem with the 1.2/1.3GHz Durons.

It is fixed in a later BIOS: (from the abit website)

Bios Issue Date: 2001/12/27

2. Support AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU, and fix AMD Duron 1.2/1.3G CPU bootup failed issue.

---

All BIOS upgrade information for the mainboard is here: http://www.abit.com.tw/abitweb/webjsp/english/download_content.jsp?pTITLE=KR7A+%2F+KR7A-RAID&#

I am concerned that the motherboard I will be getting will not have the BIOS updated to this or past it. What will happen if it does not have the update and I use the Duron 1.2GHz before upgrading the BIOS?

Thank you very much,
Jawa

Maybe just go with a 1GHz Duron just to be safe? :D

If you have another CPU, update with it. You can also take it to a shop and have them update the BIOS. ;)

I have the same board, make sure you have BIOS revision 9N

that'll take care of all

He can't apply the update if it won't boot, AG.

Maybe a dumb question... I've never tried it... but can you POST and get into BIOS settings with no CPU installed in a mobo?

Thanks for the help guys.. I was thinking the same thing about no CPU, but I guess that's not possible.

I settled for a Duron 1GHz. Thanks again guys. :)
