okay, Adelphia's increasing price on cable modems, so I'm thinking about buying a cable modem. Anyone have tips on which ones to avoid, reliable ones, good offers? thanks.

Surfboard (http://commerce.motorola.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=237516&prmenbr=126&bcs_cgrfnbr=230509&zipcode=), the best one out there. ;) Of course, you can find it at a store for much less than through Motorola.

I used to have a Toshiba USB cable modem. I know many don't like the USB ones, but I had no problems with it at all.

I thought that when you sign up for a cab;e plan they give you a free cable modem. Or does your plan not do that?

I know with my ISP, ATTBI, I'm renting the modem. They don't give them for free. Too bad though, I really like the Surfboard. I'm too cheap to go out and buy one.

it use to be like that then they decide to charge a few dollars each month for it, so that adds to about the same price as a modem after a year.

$68 for a Surfboard 4200 isn't bad.
