Yes basically I have a very old Torisan 6 speed..yeah I know http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif...cd-rom, it has trouble reading off certain 'burnt' cd's.

Is there anything I can do to allow it to be able to read from such cd's ?.

I tried installing newer drivers once, but my comp wouldn't load windows anymore so I had to remove them.

My specs:
P133,
64 mb ram (edo).
45gig HDD.
windows 98se.

Thanks.
KKF.

edit: sorry to bug you people with this, but i have spent too much money this month and am broke right now, so i cant buy a modern cd-rom that would solve the problem http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

you might want to give this a try.... Download UDF Reader V.1.02 from here on the Downloads page:

Thank you! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif But did UDF reader solve the problem?

Unfortunately not http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif.

The cd-rom has trouble reading from certain areas of the cd, i have checked a number of cd's to make sure it wasnt a scratch, but no success.

Any other ideas ?.

Well, if UDF Reader won't do it.... it sounds like it's time to fork out some cash on a new up-to-date CDROM drive. Most CDROM's that are under 24X have this problem when reading burned CD's.

shame, i was hoping i could force this one to live for a while longer.

What exactly does UDF Reader do ?.

The older CDROM drives have a optical laser that can't read high density data on the surface of the CDROM... UDF reader basically does this software wise... The CROM nowadays have a laser technology that read at higher density.

Time for a new one then.

Thanks for your effort!.

If possbile, try a different brand of CD-R. Different brands behave differently...

If it isn't multi-read capable, you're likely to have trouble reading CD-R's. Like NDC said, I believe that all 24x and higher CD-Rom's support multi-read.
