Their prices are pretty good and I would recommened them. brandon184 01-30-2001, 05:02 PM I highly reccomend Dell laptops for quality and reliability. Prices aren't that bad either.. http://www.dell.com/ Donkey 01-30-2001, 05:06 PM only makes i would consider are toshiba, sony, and IBM. not sure wether they will meer you needs or price etc but i certainly think they are the best. Rod Mr.Goodbytes 01-30-2001, 06:32 PM What OS do you want to run? I agree with Donkey on his choices. I'm a big fan of Toshibas, like their 2700 and 2800 series. IBM's are always nice, but so darn expensive. And I don't know how far you're going to go with this, but most Sony's now come with built-in firewire. So if you go into videos to, that will save you the grief of getting an adapter. If you want to run Win2k, i seriously recommmend a Compaq Armada M700 system. They run Win2k very well. edwelly 01-30-2001, 07:47 PM Compaq Presario does NOT support Win2000. And they aren't willing to offer any help with any products that you may own that are not Compaq. But my Compaq laptop does work pretty well... doctj 01-30-2001, 07:59 PM Can't wait for the mobile athlons with ddr. Intel eat dirt! AndreRIO 01-30-2001, 08:10 PM hi, i would recomment to you, wait for geforce "go" onboard video graphics for notebooks to come [This message has been edited by AndreRIO (edited 01-30-2001).] brandon184 01-30-2001, 09:46 PM DELL! - Brandon tw1112 01-30-2001, 09:56 PM I agree with Andre. If you need better graphics, Geforce2Go would be the best chip for notebooks. I have unconfirmed knowledge of Toshiba stating that they will come out with the first notebook utilizing the nvidia chip at the end of feb? Sorry I don't have anymore info then this. Also, for the things that you are listing, I don't think that weight is even an option anymore...I guess..Sony would be the lightest? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Mr.Goodbytes 01-30-2001, 10:07 PM Compaq Presario does NOT support Win2000. And they aren't willing to offer any help with any products that you may own that are not Compaq. But my Compaq laptop does work pretty well... That's why I said Armada. seti 01-30-2001, 10:15 PM The Toshiba Satellite 2805 will be pretty slick. The top-shelf version of the 2805 is the S402 model, which will cost $2749. It has an 850-MHz Pentium III processor, 128MB of SDRAM, a 20GB hard drive, 16MB of video SDRAM with the NVidia graphics, a 15-inch thin-film transistor display, and integrated Ethernet and modem. It includes a three-in-one optical drive--with 24X CD-ROM, 8X DVD, and 4X CD-RW--as well as a smart media slot, two type II PC Card slots, and a Yamaha sound system with a subwoofer in the base. I'm pretty sure you could double the RAM. Other manufacturers are sure to follow though. Petros 01-31-2001, 12:16 AM Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new notebook. The main requirement is that it can do some pretty hefty graphics work. I'm thinking around 800MHz, at LEAST 256MB RAM, and it would be nice for it to be light as well http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. Long battery life is also a plus. What do you all think? Dell? Winbook? Gateway? Who makes good notebooks these days anyway? Thanks! Warthog 01-31-2001, 05:05 AM I strongly recommend Toshiba. My dad has one, never had any problems with it. Good prices too. Warthog Petros 01-31-2001, 06:46 AM I guess weight isn't something I should worry about too much http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Any of these brands known for long battery life? The computer will be used on many a long plane flight. Thanks! tw1112 01-31-2001, 07:27 AM Wow..nice model Seti! I didn't think they were onsale yet! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Wish I had the money to get this one hehe.. The battery life on the toshiba is approx. 2hrs I believe. SO I would definitly go with extra battery supplies. Sorry couldn't get ubb code to work for me..I was going to post the direct link.
