How would I download the Entire Page of the Sysopt forum? includeing all posts ever made EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY ONE!!!! i want to use it so i can have an archive on my new 1Ghz machine now that Netzero cut me off and i already used the 25 hours that bluelight gives me.

so... how can i download the sysopt forum and use it on my other comp including all images every post and a working search function? is it possible? i saw the other post "web site downloaders" and none of the progs did what i wanted (or i probally didnt know how to use em) i know it will take sometime to get it (even on broadband)

thanks

When I see a vague, unimaginative Topic like "How Do I?", sometimes I want to say something like "You Don't". So I did.

Roy - Calm down. Its a topic.

Voogru - No, I don't think its possible, unless you manually do each page.

And, may I reccomend making your topic's more descriptive...

ie. "Downloading Forum Contents"
"How do I download this forum?"

etc.

I'm not sure if this is any help, as you've tried others but just in case http://www.midnightblue.com/SuperHTTP/index.htm

kind of curious what intentions do you have planned if you do get every single post? make a giant troubleshoot book??

I think a compelling argumemt AGAINST doing this is the usefulness of the information. Even if you COULD manage to do this, the info would be useless in a week because things are changing so rapidly that it would be quickly outdated. So basically I think it's not worth the effort.

I don't think search would work as I am sure the current system access their servers. You would have to modify the search function to look on your hard drive.

I had a friend who wrote a program that would download an entire sight. It worked pretty well. I was a beta tester, too bad I didn't keep that program or I would forward it to ya.

...AND I'LL ALSO CEASE OPENING THIS KIND OF THREAD AND TRYING TO PROVIDE USEFUL ANSWERS...

Does someone actually force you to answer in threads you don't quite like, or threads you don't quite find useful ?.

Or is it something compulsive ?.

My apologies to voogru.

AND TRYING TO PROVIDE USEFUL ANSWERS.

Roy's definition of a useful answer:

When I see a vague, unimaginative Topic like "How Do I?", sometimes I want to say something like "You Don't". So I did.

Roy, I believe you started a thread (if not, then please do so) on your thoughts regarding topic title information (as you did on your thoughts of members spelling and grammar). Feel free to keep bumping it up if you want.

To give responses like yours above to every (or any) topic whose title doesn't meet your expectations of what it should be is not helpful and only serves to annoy and disrupt.

I'll not respond further.

Get this thread back on topic, folks.

Voogru,
You've got an interesting idea, that's for sure. Just thought I'd point out the following:
Based on the main forum page, as of 10:25 AM EST, there were 57,004 posts. If you save this webpage (using IE), the HTML file has a 37.2KB file size, and the folder created for all the images (13 of them) is 22 KB. So, for this webpage alone, it's roughly 59 KB. Obviously, this is just one post, there are others that are far larger in size (Example: Your post (http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum17/HTML/001758.html) in the Community forum, the first page is 91.4KB). So, if every post was 59KB, to save the entire forum,
57004 posts x 50KB=2,850,200KB ... or almost 3 Gigs. That's probably the minimum size of the forum. If you actually downloaded the entire thing, I'm sure it would be much bigger. Also, I hope you're using DSL or cable to connect to the net.
