ok so I was dumb and invested $5 in this machine--it does it's test page just fine--but of course its old and doesn't want to functions with WIN95. I tried to download a new driver--Boy was I disappointed in HP's assistance on-line. Yikes!! Anyway--I get and "out of memory" error now. I suspect that the printer has very little if any memory and I am considering getting some. Wondering if any of you know anything about whether it will work with WIN95. I don't do any big print jobs--a couple pages at most and they don't need to be fancy--but with the cheapo printers out there, would I be better off just junking this one?
Thanks, again!! Mary Jane

HP Deskjet 500s definitely work with Windows 95. maybe Windows is out of memory, not the printer. Its Windows that spools and prints the files. You can't necessarily blame the HP, unless of course its broken.

I am not complaining about HP printers--I am complaining about how extremely difficult it is to use their site. My favorite printer is my 12 year old HPIIP laser jet. It is awesome. HOwever--I still have this error message--so, PLEASE don't just tell me it is a windows memory problem without giving me some idea of how to get around it. Try playing with the printer spool settings. By defualt, it should be printing after First page is spooled. If that doesn't work, try printing directly to the printer setting.

Try deleteing your temp files and cache files. Then run defrag. Reboot and try printing again.

One of my printers is a HP 500 C. I love it. But I'm wearing it out. It is 6 years old. It just needs the driver that's on the CD.

Thanks, All!!! I stuck it on another computer and now it works great. YeHAAAA!!! A whole system sans sound--UGH. I have a heck of a time with old stuff and getting drivers to work. So am off to OPTi site to try my hand at that http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Mary Jane
