External modem query

I have a US Robotics 56K external modem... Running WinXP PRo

When the computer boots, and i'm in windows, every program will load, apart from my internet connection.

I have to wait for windows to find my modem befor i can connect.

If i don't switch my modem on befor my computer, i hace to add new hardware first.

Is there a file i can download to stop this from happening???:confused:
