Has anybody expierenced when doing an upgrade from W95 to W2000, does the Start Menu Program icons disappear? If so, what is the fix for this problem?

That's not normal. Windows Explorer isn't running. You can press Alt-Ctrl-Del, summon Task Manager and click "New Task" and type in EXPLORER.EXE. That will give you a taskbar and menu, usually.
What you really must do is boot from the Win2K CD and run Repair > Fast Repair.
