why is the athlon classic more expensive than the athlon thunderbird?

Probably a few reasons - they seem to be scarce (they are for me - UK): supply and demand problem, also they are produced in a relatively expensive package with a circuitboard and solder - got to be more expensive than a straight Socket A chip.

I reckon the main reason for the higher price is the expensive off-die cache chips found on the Classic.
