Question is: DO I REALLY NEED to install these drivers under win2000.
I remeber having problems with win XP. There was some kind of incompatibility or smth with CD recording software and I even got win XP popup message each time i looged in about some kind of hardware problem (don't remeber exactly what it said). Any way, since then i'm bit afraid installing all the patches etc from hardware manufacturers CD :) unless something really doesn't work.
SO ... to install or not ti install?

If you don't have any problems with your computer then I wouldn't. I have a MSI MS-6153VA and never install the drivers not even in 98. To be honest unless I notice a problem I don't install the drivers except in Windows 95 and XP probably has some form of VIA drivers anyways.

I was running W2K Pro until recently, where I switched to XP Pro. Under both OS's, I have always installed the 4-in-1s, immediately after installing the OS, using the latest available (but non-beta) version available at the time.
Latest 4-in-1s are 4.40(a)P3, I believe. They seem to work fine on my system (EPoX 8K3A+ mobo, using RAID-0). Previous system used Asus A7V133, also using RAID-0).
Once installed initially, future 4-in-1s revs installed without problems. If you do seem to have issues, try installing while booted into safe mode. Also, I always turn off any antivirus autoprotection during installation.

Question:
Should I install the 4-in-1 drivers?
Answer:
All VIA chipset users should install the 4-in-1 drivers to improve performance, fix issues, and minimize any incompatibilities.
This is what i found in viaarena.com FAQ section.
unconvincing ...

I tried them without at first on XP pro and with didn't cause any problems either way which is good, although XP does come with the 4in1's.
WinXP doesn't need VIA 4in1 drivers, they come shipped within the OS. It's also stated in VIA's FAQ.
Any other MS OS does.
