I set my BIOS and windows passwords, and now want to take them out. I can get into the bios screen, but cannot remember how to disable the passwords, so it will not ask me for them anymore. i KNOW my passwords, that is not the problem,I just want to take them off. Can you please give me detailed directions on this?

On you're motherboard - there is a jumper (look in your manual) which resets the bios to defaults.
It's normally located close to the BIOS itself. you need to short the jumper, then power on (nothing happens) then power of again. Then open the jumper and then enter the BIOS - passwords should be gone.
It should be documented in the Motherboard manual.

Is there no way to just do this from the BIOS screen? or by clicking on something somewhere? I'm afraid shorting things out is beyond me, except by accident! Try to remember back to when you knew almost nothing, and you will be at the level that I am at and the idea of shorting something out on the inside of your computer just sounds like cyber-suicide.

Well, here's an option that you could try if all else fails. You could just remover the BIOS battery, that will erase all information in the BIOS and it will be back to all the default settings, without a password.

I think you need to go into the bios and set up a new password. If you leave it blank, then there is no password.

Noctrl is correct.
You don't need to go to the jumper, battery level of things. Just simply go into password setup and don't enter anything, ( hit return ). Exit and save, and your passwords should be gone.
All the best, Justy.

Boy I hope you two are correct, that sounds so much easier and safer. I will try it again, I wandered around in there for a bit and had that idea, but must not have carried through correctly, I will try again.
Thanks for the KISS alternative advice.
