I have two computers, mine and my wife's. They are pretty much similiar:

mine- AMD 1.4/256DDR/win98se/linksys nic/
hers- AMD 1.3/128SDR/win98/linksys nic/

We both go through our router, to our cable modem, and then to the internet. The problem is that when we get on the same game server, her ping to the server is 100 and mine is 200. It doesn't matter if we're on at the same time or not, my pings are ****, but hers are great! I don't understand this since our comps are pretty much the same.

Can anyone please give me a suggestion on how to get my ping to a faster rate? I assume it's got to be a OS/registry setting but I'm probably wrong. I can't figure out what is different between our two machines. Thanks.

Can't answer your ?? myself, but I found a group of networking knowledge at http://www.practicallynetworked.com.

Find the rgistry key:
HKLM\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP and check the default value. You can double it or cut it in half and see what that does to your ping.

Or you can go to pcworld.com and there is a tune-up section where you can download an applet that will check your system and then make slight registry tweaks to improve performance.

My pings were always high and I did the tweak. Dropped them to the same range as your wife's. My speeds went from avg. 1.7 mb/sec to avg 2.4 mb/sec by doing this.

are your rwin packet sizes the same and is the mtu rate the same on both computers?
