I'd like to replace my Creative Di5633 V.92 (really a Conexant chipset) software modem with a hardware modem (preferrably V.92). I'll list my hardware configuration and before everybody tells me to just keep my modem, I'll tell my reason for wanting to replace it. When I am downloading and installing software at the same time, I loose my connectivity. My computer tells me I'm still connected, but I can't get anything from it. Otherwise during normal use it is good. I would rather have a modem that doesn't consume any of my system's resorces. Any recommendations that don't cost a fortune? Must be PCI, I really really HATE external parts on my computer.

well the only modem that I can think of is the usr performance pro which is a hardware pci modem. as for being V92 that I am not sure of yet as I am going to look at it tomorrow for myself as I am wanting to replace my cheap "rockwell" modem that came in this computer.

can you all tell me who you use to dial up with your v.92 modem? i have had some slight difficulties with mine. i have a creative modem and i checked on their site to find out more about it. from what i understand they are able to go between v.90 and v.92 depending on what the line puts out. is this correct? are there specific isp's that support v.92?

by the way it is a winmodem, not hardware

I currently do not have an ISP that supports v.92. There is nobody in the area that does. I just want to be ready. I too use a piece of s*** Creative v.92 modem. My biggest complaint is they do not make a driver that works under XP. It says it's for XP, and to ignore the warnings when installing it. After the Creative driver is installed, the modem will not function. It has to run on the generic Conexant HCF driver to work. And I have dialed up v.92 numbers and it will only connect with v.90. I would like to take this opportunity to give Creative Labs my "I'm number one" hand signal!

Also, Creative does not make a v.92 chipset. They call them Broadexant, but if you peel off the sticker, it is just a Conexant chipset. I could have paid $10 less for the same modem without the Broadexant sticker!

All Conexant drivers can be found at www.conexant.com. You just have to dig a little.
