I have been reading Beemers Win tip's on the web and glancing thru my registry. I noticed several folders that was of programs long ago deleted. I run McAfee's uninstaller regularly for this purpose. I knew when I deleted programs, a few files stayed in the registry, but thought McAfee got rid of them. Can I go in and manully delete them?

And to make this look like a non double post.......
I like that reg cleaner because it is realy simple to use. Also gives you an idea what the entry is for and saves your deletions for handy replacement or permanent deletion.

First and formost: make a backup of your Registry. you can use this procedure: 1. run regedit then select the registry tab then select "export registry file. then name the file something like regbak01.reg.
If you KNOW that the program you need to delete is no longer on your system then follow this procedure.
Click on the edit tab.
then click on find next or F3. now in the find what box enter the program's name. THIS COULD BE CRITICAL, because several references of the program might be associated with other programs.
Once you have entered the data then select the "find next" tab and the search procedure will begin. when the registry finds an instance it will stop and you can press the delete key and then the F3 key to continue.
I would suggest trying this with a small shareware utility or something of that nature first before you progress on to bigger things.
again: you must use CAUTION!!!
good luck.

one more thing: time spent learning how to restore your registry will save you a huge amount of pain.

RegEditX is a nice enhancement to RegEdit. It creats a directory of where you've been and lets you get back there with a click. You can get it (and much more) at www.regedit.com (http://www.regedit.com) .

I use three registry cleaners, they do different things well.
The first is Microsoft's RegClean
The second is RegCleaner at http://www.jv16.org/
The third is EasyCleaner at http://www.saunalahti.fi/tonihele/
These three programs, which clean different parts of the registry, keep my registry file from getting bloated.
