Hello,

I got this 15 months old Acer 8*4*32 cd burner. But last week i got a error from my bios. I was just burning some cd's and when i rebooted the pc the bios said this:

2nd IDE Master incompatible.

I got on my 2nd IDE a DVD player (acer 16*40) and that burner. But when i just continiou into WinXP then it's still there. But after like 5 minutes XP get's incredible slow and my dvd player and writer dissapear in the hardware section.

When i go to the bios and i do auto ide detection is say's. No Installed at the place where the CD-RW suppose to be.

Also if i plug out the ide cable from my CD-RW then the problem is solved with windows. So i thought perhaps my CD-RW is broken then. BTW: bios is American Megatrends.

Anyone know the answer to this question, cause perhaps i have to buy a new one then.

In BIOS > Standard CMOS Setup, set the IDE channel that the CDRW is on to None. BIOS will then detect it properly. Check the jumper too.
