Hiya all! First of all, I am not a computer genius. Not even close. I realize I need to update my computer, but don't want to spend the dough right now. I would like to update my existing computer. Its a home built system from some small local company that has since went belly-up. Here are my system specs:

Win98se

Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co. 7IXE 1.1
Bus Clock: 100 megahertzBIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 62710 06/01/2000

Chipset:750 megahertz AMD Athlon (i think its called irongate)

Memory:384 Megabytes Installed Memory256 Megabyte Module Size - 1 Installed128 Megabyte Module Size - 1 InstalledOne Memory Socket is Empty

Drives:20.48 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity9.79 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free SpacePIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-115 [CD-ROM drive]Generic floppy disk drive (3.5")

Video card: RAGE FURY MAXX (English) its a 64 meg card, but only 32 are being used for some reason (i was told because of compatability issues)[Display adapter]RAGE FURY MAXX Secondary [Display adapter]Default Monitor

I found the website for the motherboard, but don't know what bios to download or how to even install it. I would like to know if i can increase my bus speed or do somthing so i can take advantage of all 64 megs of my video card, (as its running with only 32).

If anyone has a few minutes to help me out with this I would REALLY appreciate it. My goal is to get this system running better without having to spend a dime :) Just remember that I am no where near as smart/competent as you guys, so try not to talk too techy because I will surely get lost.
Thanks in advance guys!

Welcome to SysOpt ! :)

Bus speed has nothing to do with videocard. Look in drivers' options to enable second processor+32MB memory.
1. Latest BIOS for you (http://ftp.gigabyte.com.tw/support/temp/beta/7ixe_faa.zip).
2. Flash BIOS Procedure (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/support/procedure1.htm)
3. Latest Rage Fure MAXX drivers for Win9x (http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winme/winme4127942.html)
4. Good luck :)

ok i managed to do the flash bios thing and update. My vid card already had that latest driver. My computer seems to be running fine. Now what can I do to make the vid card run at 64 instead of 32? and can i alter my bus speed to make it faster?

Thanks again, I already got further than I would have alone!

heres the link for the rage fury maxx that i have:

http://www.ati.com/products/pc/ragefurymaxx/specs.html

its a 64 meg card but only shows 32 megs running for me.

I see nothing in the drivers options to enable the other 32 megs. What do i do now?

Thanks again for the help

You'll have to see if the vid card has a updated bios flash. The only way I can think that they would disable the other 32mb would be through a bios flash. :t
