While I'm trying to upgrade my PC to Windows XP Home Edition, it prompt me a BLOCKING ISSUES as follow =>

' Your computer has hardware devices that prohibit you from upgrading to Window XP, " Highpoint HPT366 Ultra DMA Controller " '

I found that my motherboard have the " Highpoint HPT366 " Chipset built-in. There 2 entries in Device Manager, under SCSI controllers, that mention the HPT366.

Present Operating System: Windows 98 (second edition)
Motherboard: ABIT BE6-||

Please Kindly guide me in step through a solution, your help is appreciated.

Thanks !!!

Your motherboard should have come with a floppy disk with the HPT drivers. If not, download them here:

http://www.highpoint-tech.com/366_2k_125.zip

The Win2K driver should work.

What I would do is connect the hard drives to the standard IDE controller and upgrade. After setting up WinXP and loading the new drivers, I would move the drives back to the Highpoint.

You have to open the case and look. Do you have the motherboard manual? Find out which ports are for the HPT and which aren't. If the drives are connected to the HPT, you have to move them. If they are not, you can ignore the upgrade message and go.

Infact...I'm now reading the manual, trying to figure out too.

Which mean...I have to remove those's drive connecting to HPT???
If I were to remove those drive ... do i need to connect them to other port before my upgrading???

Then...how about the link u send me??? What should I do with it after i've downloaded it ???

Thanks.

Leave that download on your desktop. It's the drivers for the HPT. I'd rather not write book here until you know what's what on that end. You may not need the drivers at all.

Please read the manual. There are four IDE ports on that motherboard. You need to figure out which are the standard ports and where your drives are connected.

Obviously, you did not build that PC. Someone did for you. Who was it? Where is he?

These are the HPT ports - right out of the manual. If your hard drive is connected there, move it to IDE 1. If something is connected to IDE1, move it to IDE2. Upgrade and worry about the HPT later.
