I was attempting to make my very first patch cable. i grabbed one cable that already had ends on it and another one with no ends. I proceded to cut the ends off the cable so i could attach them to the cable without any ends. I cut the wires near the plug but how do i get the wires out the plug that i cut, or is this not possible?

Those ends are crimped-on. They are cheap enough. You can get a 50-pack of them for about $6.95. You'll need a crimping tool to use the new ones. Alternately, you could use modular jacks and plugs. Home Depot has a good assortment.
