It's been going on for a while but for some reason it's really beginning to get on my nerves:

Some settings in XP change back after I have applied them. I understand that there may be a glitch when the shadow under mouse pointer keeps changing back to no shadow by itself after I play a game that displays in 256 colours, but it's still annoying (I like the silly shadow!)

Also, some programs that run in the taskbar (ICQ for example) are set, by me, to "always show" and yet, now and again (seemingly for no reason as I do basically the same things each day) it will decide to go to "hide when inactive" all by itself. I know I could set it to show all of the items all of the time, but I have Norton's A/V, Internet security, hotsync, activesync, etc. running there and I'd like to keep them there, but out of sight when I am not using them. It's a feature of XP so why shouldn't I get to use it and have it work properly :) ?

Does anyone know what causes this to happen and how I can possibly prevent these (and a few other settings that change as well) from having a mind of their own? It's annoying!
Thanks

I would recommend running a Repair on XP:

That usually fixed lingering bugs.
