When using ME's Backup Program, I find that when trying to backup individual files (rather than the full disk) the program don't seem to fill the full capicity of the CD R Disk (650mb), and after copying about 40 megs or so to the backup disk, the program ask for another disk. When the new disk is installed, the program indicates that the disk is full and is already a part of this specific backup, and it gives this message repeately no matter how many new/fresh/empty disk I keep putting in the drive. This is my first time using Windows ME Backup, but is there some limitation on the amount of data or the number of individual files that can be backed up on one backup program. I can start over each time after backing up a small single file, but on a large file it wont work. Anybody has any suggestions, or what my problem is.

I wouldn't use the microsoft backup utility to backup to CDs. Don't you have Nero, Easy CD creator or something ?

If you want to do complete drive backups, Drive Image and Ghost are pretty solid. :D

I wasn't looking to buy any software. I do have Nero, but it only backs up the entire drive, and I want to backup a group of specific files. ME's Backup seem to indicate that you can backup the whole drive or selected files. What's the problem I can't get it to perform that for me?

Nero CAN backup individual files. You just need to create a new ISO and drag and drop the files you want, just like in windows explorer. If you use the wizard, then create a new data cd, and it will give you a blank ISO.

I have Win ME and I've never seen the backup program. Where is it located in the system?

Backup is not included in a normal install of WinME.
If you really want to install it, here's how:
http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q264541&LN=EN-US&rnk=28&SD=tech&FR=0&qry=backup&src=DHCS_MSPSS_tech_SRCH&SPR=WINME&

It's basically there for legacy support. Win98 had backup, but there are a lot of better programs out there. Microsoft backup is really meant for tape drives. CDRWs are not supported. Here's the link:

Tycoonist:

ME's Backup Program is on the ME Installation disk. It's not installed when you run the Setup on the initial installation, so you have to go back to the disk and get MS Backup and install it separately. I forget what heading it's, but check those three sections out, you I'll find it.

MidKnyte:

I'll try that individual file backup on Nero. In using the wizzard or checking the manual I didn't see any explanation as you indicated. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Ok. It's going to be so much easier than using the microsoft backup. I hate to see anyone suffer with that program. :)

Thanks for the info. I don't really need the program, but I just wanted to know where it was located.
