my cousin wants to set up a 2hdd's on his computer.. 1 to hold anime and the rest for his other stuff
does the slave drive have to contain an o/s? or do i just change the jumper settings and let her rip?

Unless you want to dual boot or something, you don't need an os on the second drive. format the drive using a file system that is compatible with the operating system on the original drive. you'll probably want to use fat32 since everything since win95b can read it. just partition, format, and let 'er rip! :D

U can use the 2nd hdd as a slave only provided that it's only meant for file-sharing purpose or any other purposes.
Or just change both hdd pins to CS mode.. bootable
hdd is to master ide connector and slave ide connector to the 2nd hdd.
Depends on what OS u're using.. it's best to format as FAT32 or NTFS if u got win2k and above.
Only drawback is NTFS .. u cant view it on true DOS mode.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Okie..
1.install the 2nd hdd according to his liking.
2.Boot up system as per normal.. Once u get to the desktop, go to "My Computer".
3.The 2nd hdd should get detected.
4.Right click on new hdd, select format.
5.Finally.. select format mode as NTFS.
6.Begin the format.
Cheers.

Since ur cousin wanna have 2 types of criteria..
open the run command on the Start button..
do this entry - compmgmt.msc so as to open the Computer Management panel.
Once in, doubleclick DiskManager.
Partition it both as primary. The diskspace will depend on what ur cousins wanna do/install on both of his anime and his other stuffs.
After done that.. format both partition as NTFS.
