Yamaha has created a new CD Writer that can burn visible data onto the CD surface. The data can either be text or graphics and is burned into the unused portion of a disc.
Yamaha calls this technology DiscT@2™ and says it will be "eliminating the need for labels".
 Sounds VERY cool! But now, instead of having to replace your current CD burner for a faster one, you'll be replacing it with one that can visibly label itself! The media manufacturers will love it, because you'll have to leave enough space for the text. This could effectively reduce a 800MB disc, to a 500MB one, causing more blank CDs to be purchased. Also, new discs will probably be created that will leave more of a contrast between the burned, and un-burned portions of the disc.
