I am operating a Gateway laptop with a 300 mhz PentII processor with 32 meg ram. My 4 gig HD is about 1/4 used. I regulartly defrag and run Norton Utilties 3.0. I have been noticing a marked decrease in system speed lately. It's particularly noticable when using Netscape 4.6. Any suggestions ?

More ram, less background resource hog apps, fresh Windows install!
That about covers it all!

I found NU3 to be a huge resource hog. Suggest you use DiskDoctor and the Disk Defrag Optimizer and get rid of the rest.
Ctrl+Alt+Del - If you are using MS Word, is FindFast in there? Then do a Find and delete all FindFast. Same for OSA too, it's not really needed unless you want it.
You delete Netscape's cache files? those Temp Internet Files add up quick.
More RAM, yes.

But Defrag is sooooo slow.... Give me Speedisk any day. Disk Doctor is much nicer than Scandisk as well. Simply keep System Doctor (what a hog!) from loading at Windows startup.
Other than that, Bluecow pretty much covered it.
