I was just wondering if there is more or less of a possibility of loosing data stored in a zip'd file as apposed to not being zip'd. The data would be stored for 2 years or so on writable CD.

No Difference. If you were to scratch the heck out of the cd, it wouldn't matter what kind of file.

I think I would go ahead and ZIP them. And be sure to include a copy of the UnZip utility on the CD. You might have trouble finding it again in two years. The only problem I forsee with this approach is that an operating system several years from now might not be able to run, say, for example, a Windows application, like WinZIP.
