Hi all,

Last few days ive noticed that after prolonged periods of constant browsing the net, the speed of my cable modem drops...to... a... cralw. So much so that web pages load up at sub 60bytes per second rates, and it taked about a week to check my inbox (okay - exaggeraton perhaps - BUT STILL!!).

Funnily enough this doesnt occur on long haul dloads (ie 7 hours on grokster), only when using the net.

I am currently using win 2k pro, and would be grateful of any advice on this matter -- cheers

If the modem has an RJ-45 jack, you should switch to Ethernet. USB plain stinks for networking. USB modems typically overdraw power from the USB bus and eventually shut it down. If you don't have an RJ-45 jack, call your ISP and demand an Ethernet modem.

Sometimes, an updated BIOS, chipset drivers and device drivers will help. To me, it's not worth the trouble. Buy a NIC and cable for £10 if your modem has Ethernet.

LAN's coming soon to the household, i could possibly run it off the NIC when the other machine aint in use.

Cheers
