I'm currently experiencing some problems with my new pioneer dvd-rom 16X. when I installed it and booted it up, it got detected and all but it seems to be having problems with cd's. So I was checkin out the problem and it only has 3 driver files, while they normally have 4... which I checked on friends machine who both have the same drive. I even installed their drive and the same thing occured, missing that one file. IMAPI.sys Is there a way I can get that driver included.. it seems to me like a win xp error, would a full reinstall work too?

Try this:
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?sess=no&cat=%2fProduct%2fASPI-4.70&prodkey=Windows+ASPI+Package

What mobo do you have, and what IDE connector are you using? The reason I ask is I have read threads that imply that the HighPoint (on-board) RAID controller has problems properly recognizing ATAPI devices, even if being used as a plain IDE (not RAID) connection.

well the thing is it recognized my friends perfectly fine a while back, once I put it in, it seemed alright, but I uninstalled it and now I've notice the 1 driver file missing. It still seems to run partially (I can play dvd's go figure) but when I try to explore the disk, I get an I/O error... the 3 I have are cdrom.sys / redbook.sys/ storprop.dll. I have a ABit KG7 (not raid) and to my knowledge, a standard IDE cable... which has my burner(which works perfectly fine with 4 driver files) and the dvd rom... on the sec. I had another dvdrom till it seemed to have blown.. and now I was making the switch.

I tried all the xp updates and still nothing better. I seem to be having an I/O exception when I try to explore the dvd... yet works perfectly on my cousins comp. certain cd's give an invalid win 32 application???? and the little icon for the dvd drive goes into a unknown file icon... very frustrating for a new component.

I would try to move the drive to another role (master/slave), replace the cable and check for bent pins. Beyond that, I would reinstall Windoze.

Could be the cause for the 32bit error thingy.
Looks like u need to do a clean installation of the DVD driver.
Other than that.. repair the windows via ur WinXP
CD.
Cheers.

I did a full reinstall of windows, same problem, I'll check for pins but not sure about that, the drive works perfectly in my cousins comp, so I know its not the drive, I tried all the new drivers but still nothing doin... I used the dvd rom to install XP so I know it works, just not in XP.... not sure what to do now
