hi all.

is their a utility or program to check ones regestry.

my computer is doing strange things.

i cant load norton 2002, i get script errors or it just makes it to the start info wizzard and hangs their. so i cant check for viruses.

I lost use of hotmail, msn still works but even after reinstalling and signing in to hot mail it just opens to a blank temp folder.

iloaded up ages of empires, a ms game I have had on and off this computer many times wuith out a problem. i loaded it up today, it all goes as it should till you hit the icon to start the game and the computer flashes then goes to a black screen and freezes solid. gota hold the power switch to reboot.

I tried it several times with same out come( uninstall/reinstall)

I have done so much adding/ removing programs I am thi9nking my registry is probably a shamble.

i have fix it utilities but I was wondering if their is a regestry checker that comes with win 98se. I saw it mentioned in a past thread( to use regestry checker).

any thought would be apriciated. ward.

yes win 98se has a registry checker, however at this point it wont help much. Sounds like a CLEAN reinstall may be the best thing to do.

I use System Mechanic to keep everything in good working order.

It may well be a registry problem but it also may well be a virus problem. I am seeing a lot of machines with similar problems due to viruses. Many viruses these days prevent installs of NAV. There are complicated disinfection instructions on the Symantec NAV site fhat can tell you how to disinfect to the point where you can install NAV, but I think it's usually easier to wipe the drive and start fresh.

Yes. Run your AV... from your Rescue Disk. Then run in DOS mode Scanreg/Fix (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q183887)

Hi

As above comments - the most recent virus I encountered that stopped any AV loading was Klez.

Go to Symantec site and dload the "fix" to see if that helps.

I have had alot of computers coming in with the "Klez" virus lately. A few system files missing, sending out e-mails, progams will not install. Some recovery disk work well that came with the computers. Other have been clean installs.

P.S. If you want to check to see if it (Klez) sending out e-mails, put a bad e-mail address in your address book, The virus will try to send mail to this address, it will come back as undelieverable mail.
