Dead CD-Writer??

Hello all, here is my problem. I got an HP CD-Writer Plus 8200i (internal) a little over a year ago and now all of a sudden, boom, it's spitting out coasters. When it does, I can't eject the disk, even after a re-boot or a shutdown. And when i restart after it creates the coaster (I have to re-start cauz windows will crash soon after) it doesn't even detect the drive, but my IDE led stays on and the computer doesn't work properly. Is it a dead drive?? or does anybody have any ideas. i'v tried changing programs and everything.

br0, I don't know if it is, I am not sure, but when my old 8X CD-ROM started doing the exact same thing, it was wasted.....
