This from the March 2001 issue of PC Magazine (UK)

Precis.

New hard drives could soon be fitted with copyright protection in an attempt to curb internet piracy. NCTIS are drawing up stardards that will restrict the storing of copyright material. IBM and SanDisk are thought to be considering implementing CPRM (content protection for recordable media).
Using a series of data scrambling and identification schemes, CPRM could prevent protected material being copied using devices containing the technology.

Very interesting...

Thanks, Graham. First I've heard of this.

This is really getting scary. I understand the desire to protect their work but there are often so many glitches with "advances" like this.

Oh well....

HAHA i remeber hearing about an operating system being in the works that will be virus proof. im sure that some one will come up with a program that will make that copyright protection dead.

One side builds a better mouse trap and the other a better mouse!

Maybe the guys that build the Apex DVD player will make "no copyprotection" HDs!
