Just need your opinions on which design you like more... I'm new to this "Web Design" thing... I'm ALL EARS! I'm still going through experimental stages... But let me tell ya, it's pretty addicting! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif Unfortunatly, I don't have anything much to put up on the site..... Hmmmmm... maybe I should make a Warez Site! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Ok here is the old site.....

Here is the new site......

Just for your info, I used Adobe Photoshop 6, Adobe Image Ready 3 & Adobe Go Live 5. Nothing more, and nothing less... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Both are good,
The second is more proffesional looking, but I like the construction guy.
All the best, Justy.

I liked both (a bit heavy for 56K users though). The second is more colourful and welcoming, looks more profesional (rather than a homesite as the old one). I'd go with the second.

Yes, I must agree with you 100% on the site not being good for 56K users... It's too heavy for 56K users... When I make sites for 56K users, I'm very limited to my designs...... And besides, we should be seeing more people using broadband connections shortly... As for where I am, less than 15% use 56K modems... it's all cable or DSL...
Some people, like me, don't have much choice for their internet access.
Cable isn't available here and DSL costs 2.5x phone access rates (plus an incredibly expensive startup fee).

It's usually recommended to design for 800x600 (at least make it decent enough where there aren't scroll bars). percentage tables rather than static pixel tables are typically the way to go.
Thanks for the suggestion, Joel.
Yeah, I know... I should make pages at 800x600 since it is web standard, but I think most people use 1024x768 nowadays, so 1024x768 it is..... and I have the little pop up window to give notice to view the page at 1024x768...
As for the scroll bars, there isn't anything I can do about it.. although I made the size perfectly to not show the scoll bar, the free home space server has that ad at the bottom that makes the scroll bar appear no matter what......even when you close the bottom banner, the vertical scroll remains. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
However, I will soon be moving it to my server after the some more testing.... so the scroll bar won't be an issue... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

When I see a Topic like "Opinions Anyone?" I really want to answer "No thanks, already have some." So I did.

This is a safe statement to make when you are lucky enough tolive in a Country where the Rose Tinted Goggles were removed sometime ago in the Telephone World.
It is just a pity that they have only recently been fitted to the Power Generation World of the most affluent state of the same country.

A lot more professional looking than the 1st one there NDC. To me that rainbow gif seems to take something away from the main page. Superb color choices and geometrically pleasing, but my eye keeps wandering off to that gif on the left hand side, mind you that probably is the point.
Have ya seen the Nvidia site NDC, I like the intro. What do you think they used to make that?
Keep up the good work, I'll be checking bye periodically for ideas on Biff's World 2

Yeah, I agree with you, Biff. The Rainbow
GIF file does look rather cheesy with that page layout. It's been removed.

They made that using Macromedia Flash 5.

I think the navigation on the second site is better and more logical. The design on both is good though. I would get rid of the popup on the second one because it is a bit annoying. on the first one, I clicked on Art and it opened another window instead of moving from Home to Art int he same window. ould be nice to stay int he same window unless truly necesary.
All in all great design though.
Dave
Yeh, it looks really good after I hit the refresh button NDC, so I got to look at it both ways, within seconds. Sorry, no gif looks better to me.
Flash eh! I wouldn't mind foolin around with that. What's this Live motion?, U tried that? it's like $99 Cdn, seems like a good price!
Biff
Adobe Live Motion is basically the same thing as Macromedia Flash. The great thing about Live Motion is that you can save the file in its own format which is .LIV format or you can export in .SWF format which is the format for the Flash Player... Besides the GUI, the function of the two applications are the same.
