It was suggested that I try this to help fix a problem with a game, but I wasnt sure that was a good thing since the microsoft/directx site doesnt list WinXP as one of the operating systems that it is compatible with it...tho I am/was pretty sure that dx 8.1 came with WinXp...

XP had DX 8.1 already, but it shouldn't hurt to try. Download the one for Windows 2000.
