Can I have my CDRW and HDD on same IDE Cable? I so what are any disadvantages?
I am using one of the windowed Lian Li Aluminum Cases and I wanted to keep ariflow as unobstructed as possible, so i have the rounded cable. Also, I don't want an appearance of clutter.
Any insight would be great, thanks.

Parkercd3, the cdrw and HD on the same cable should work fine, with the HD set as master and the cdrw set as a slave. If you have a secondary IDE connecter on the MB you could put the cdrw on that as master, with the HD set as master on the primary IDE connecter. Good Luck:)

yes I do have 2 IDE connectors, but I am trying to reduce clutter in my case. Are there are disdvantages to using my CDRW as a slave?

You can try it but if you have problems getting it to go then you might have to put it on another ide, so another rounded cable will help ventilation plus you can tie it to the sides and also pick another color cable for looks.

I agree with Rangeral, the different color cables and ties would look sharp other then that, you shouldn't have any problems. One other thing thought if your MB uses the newer 40-pin, 80-wire IDE cables set both CDRW and HD to cable select, the blue end of the connector to the MB, the black end to the HD, and the gray end to the CDRW. :t

Performance-wise, it is better to have the drives on separate channels. The drives would be contending for time on the line. If you have them on separate cables, it would be more efficient. However, you shouldn't have problems with them both on one. :D

Thanks all, I think you covered all my concerens. I think I will add a white round IDE cable for the CDRW and use my Red one for the HDD. With the blue cathode light inside I think it might look sweet.
Thanks for your help
