Hey,

I run Win 98 (not SE) on an Aopen AX6BC Pro MB (Intel 440BX).
I have two CD-ROM stations on the second IDE channel (as sec
master and slave).

I uninstalled some HP CD-writing software, also deleting some
files that the uninstall software said was not in use. After this,
Win 98 no longer sees my two CD-ROM stations! There are no
error messages, the only difference is that the station letters for
the CD-drives are gone.

The CD-drives still show up as normal on the BIOS startup screen, so the problem must be with windows. I tried the "Add
new hardware" wizard, but windows couldn't detect them there
either.

What can I do? It is possible that some files that are needed are
gone. Is there any way to get them back without having to re-
install windows 98? I hope I don't have to do that.

Thanks for any replies.

Download and install the Intel chipset software:

Do you mean that it actually worked? Holy cow! Hehe. I guess that we all get lucky now and then.

Have a great Norse weekend! :t
