I might have misunderstood your question, but do you mean making Googles the default page when opening the browser? If the it is, just open the IE and then go to:

Tools\Internet Option\General\

and then type in the default homepage on the top field and then press ok.

I don't think that's what doodle meant. I've been wondering the same thing myself. When you click on Search(on Toolbar), it defaults to MSN. I want it to use Google as well. I installed Copernic and it changed the default, but darned if I can change it to Google.

this information was snatched from regedit.com "please use caution when editing the registry"
good luck.

Change the Internet Explorer Search Engine (Windows 9x and NT)
Normally when you type 'go keyword' in the Internet Explorer address bar IE will search the web using a Microsoft selected search engine. By modifying this key you can select which search engine to use.

Open you registry and find the key below.

Modify the value of default to equal the URL for the search engine you want to use, substituting '%s' to represent the keywords.

For example, to use Altavista the value would be: http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?q=%s

And to use Yahoo! the value would be: http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=%s

For example, the setting may look like:

(Default) "http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?q=%s"

Registry Settings:
Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl]
Value Name: (Default)
Data Type: REG_SZ

Your'e gonna have to do that in the Regigtry. Go to Start> Run and type in Regedit. Navigate to HKey Local Machine > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer (Not IE) and highlight Main. Doble click on the Default_Search_URL in the right pane and change that to what you want. Hit enter and exit the Reg Edit.

Right click on your Toolbar and select Customize and add Search to your Toolbar and then click on Search and the left side of the window should open to Google.

Buji

What's not there? If you are using IE 5.5 you should be able to right click on the Toolbar (any of the Icons to the right of Back/Forward) and Customize the Toolbar. Or did you not put the proper value in the Registry?

I've not tried it, but do what Rat said, go to Main and change the entries there. I have 4 entiries there: Default Page URL,Default Search, Search Bar,Search Page. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I would suspect it's Search Bar you want to change. If you're unsure, highlight the Main key and go to Registry|Export and export the key to your Desktop or wherever and if it doesn't work, go to the key you Exported and and click on it to put it back. If there is no entry there, right click on Main|New|String Value and put in Search Bar http://www.google.com/

I tried the above registery change for default search engine on my Win2K w/IE5 and it doesn't do anything..... Anyone have ideas why it isn't working?

Registry Settings:
Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl]
Value Name: (Default)
Data Type: REG_SZ

I changed the default value to http://www.google.com/ but I still get the MSN search engine.....
