FSB should be 133. You won't get boot if you use 166.

I tried 133 and 100 as well... We aren't getting a Signal on the Monitor.

My MSI KT3 is a "333" mobo too, but it won't boot at 166 or even 150. You multiply the FSB x multiplier to get the CPU speed. Your multiplier is 11.5 and your actual CPU frequency is 1530. If you set 166 FSB, you'll be OCed to 1900Mhz.

Originally I started with 133 FBS and then tried it at 166 to see if it would work and it wouldn't. We put the video card in another computer and worked well, Tried another power supply and the computer did the same thing. Everything is powering up but there is no signal being powered up to the monitor.

The first thing to do is reset CMOS. You can remove the battery if you like to accomplish this.

Next, put minimal memory in the board along with the CPU and the video card. Leave the board outside of the case. Plug in the ATX power. and connect ther power button switch. Connect the monitor. Press down hard on the video card and apply power. If it POSTs, you're in.

Place the board gently in the case and use only 3 screws - one near the video card and one on each opposite corner. Do not overtighten them. Connect only the floppy, keyboard, mouse and HDDs and test.

I hope you didn't burn anything with that FSB. :(

I had this problem with one of my friend's computers............ It would turn on, start fans spinning etc etc, then about 5 seconds later, it would just shut off.

It eventually turned out that the PSU had died, it must have been half burned or something, but whatever, it was the PSU.............try a different PSU and see if it stays on.

I built a similar one, same thing, at first would not boot because the CPU was in auto (BIOS) at 1100 Mhz (or close to that). You need to select 1533 Mhz and it should work. Go to the advanced setting and play around. Click on Auto and you get a choice between these two.
By the way to get your system at FSB 166Mhz you need to unlock your Athlon XP. This would enable clock multiplier in CPU settings(advanced BIOS settings). The you could do this 10 x 166, and you just got (all of the sudden) Athlon XP 2000+

Athlons don't tolerate big FSB changes like Intels do. When the multiplier is unlocked, it allows the 133FSB to be multiplied more times. Tigger's 1800+ CPU has an 11.5 multiplier. Unlocking would allow him to use 133x13 for an Athlon 2100+ at 1730Mhz. A 166FSB is not going to work. It will lock up tight.

Dear BipolarBill,
Would like your opinion after reading this. http://www.xbitlabs.com/cpu/athlonxp-166/:t

well looks like i was just to dumb to realize it.... the only thing i never did was put the mobo in the case..... thats the only reason i built it yesterday he got all the stuff and told me on msn he was "trying" to bui8old it so i told him to bring it over and i worked with his alraady mobo in the case..... we removed it.... didn't work for soem reason... i re set all the devises..... bo yeah! worked....

but then after building it again same thing..... found out his sound card was ka-poots :P

but now i ahve have a new prob.. ehhee i'll make a new topic :D
