Hey all...

I've got a question about Win2K and XP Pro networking. I've got a Home LAN that consists of 2 PCs running XP Pro and 1 Laptop running Win2K. All 3 PCs are connected to a Linksys Router that is connected to a Motorola SB3100 Cable modem for Internet access.

1st PC is a 1.4 Athlon w/ 512mg of DDR, MSI Nforce(Nvidia) Mobo, Geforce 2 Pro, 100Gg WD HD, and Using onboard Sound and NIC (10/100).

2nd PC is a 900 Athlon w/ 512mg of SDRAM, Gigabyte 7IXE Mobo, ATI AIW Video, 30Gg Maxtor HD, SB Audigy Sound and Compaq NC3121 Fast Ethernet NIC (10/100).

Laptop is a IBM 600E..P2-333..196Mg Ram...Everything else onboard components except for the 3COM Etherlink LAN PC Card (3c589B or C) 10 Mbs only.

Hears the problem.....I can get PCs 1 and 2 to talk two each other and share files etc...perfectly. But I can't even see the Laptop in my networking area. I can ping the Laptop from PC 1 and 2, but that is all.

They are all in the same workgroup by the way. All the cable are brand new. They just don't see each other in the Network Places browser.

So, anyone got any ideas........?

Can you ping the xp systems from the 2k system?

Do you have the same user account names and passwords on each system? If not, add the same accounts to the xp and 2k systems.:D

Yeah....I can ping the XP systems with the 2K system.

I also made sure atleast 2 Users on each PC are the same including there passwords.

No luck yet though.:(

did you try connecting to a share using unc names? If you have a shared folder "stuff" on workstation "workstation1", then you can go to run, type \\workstation1\stuff. If this connects properly, then you know you're close.

Did you try to search for other computers in the workgroup? go to my network places - entire network - search for computers. leave the name blank and click search. that might do it.

2k and xp are kinda funky in that network places. it doesn't seem to respond the same as network neighborhood in win9x. :(

Ok....I tried creating the "Stuff" folders on both the 2K and XP PCs and shared them. But I couldn't use the command prompt to gain access. I just get a message "network path was not found" each time.

Still no go....:(

oh yeah....I also did the search for all computers in my workgroup and found only the XP PCs when searching from the XP PCs. When searching from the 2K PC I don't get anything, it doesn't even find it's self.

Still no go....:(

That's weird. Did you try the search using the computer name? I checked my win2k and it didn't find itself with a blank search, but it did find itself when i typed its name in the search field.
