I bought a LG writer model # GCE-8320B 32x10x40
Iam a running a p3/500, Maxtor 7200rpm HD 60 GIG
256 MB SDRAM PC 133..
What is the burn time for 32X writers for a full 700MB Disc?? audio or data its the same burn time..
It takes me 8-10 min to burn a cd.. I was getting 10min or so on my old Ricoh 8X.. then i have a friend that says he can burn a full cd in 4 min with a 24X
Also if using a cdr that isnt 32x compatible , could that be the culprit??
Thanks in advance

Welcome to SysOpt!
Is DMA enabled for the CDR in Device Manager? You didn't specify a Windows version (always a good idea).

Theoretically, a full disk took 74min at 1x. so 32x would be roughly 74/32=2.3min There are many other factors, but that would be the speed in a perfect world. 4min for a 24x is reasonable.
1x of cdrom speed is 150KB/sec. 32x would be 4800KB/sec.
It really depends what you are burning. If you are taking mp3s and ripping them on audio cds, it will take longer to burn. :D

Look in Device Manager > IDE controllers. Check the Primary and Secondary channels to see if DMA is enabled under Advanced. Most likely, the secondary is PIO mode.

Wish my sony cdr-w was that easy, but no I had to open the case and fiddle with "dont touch" jumpers. Oh well, I'm glad it works for you. Just wish I had your luck!;)
