I'm working on six computers five win98se and one Xp. All are connected and on three SE and the XP can see and access all six computers. Two of the computers, the remaining two SEs they can't acess the network. All computers can acess the internet. all are set to windows login and all are set to the same work group. whats up with those two computers. BTW peer to peer

did you try connecting via unc names? try connecting using run \\workstation1\sharename.

double check that you have file sharing enabled on all the 98 workstations. :D

Good catch, Bill. I missed that. It's weird that 3 of the systems still see the others when they are using windows logon. :D

My final setup is always NetBEUI. If tcpip ain't playing nice, NetBEUI is quick and dirty. you need to tweak xp in order to get NetBEUI on there, since it is not natively supported. Try to get tcpip working first, but you can always cop out and go for NetBEUI. :D

I think that some of the PCs are using Client as Primary Logon and some are not. It happens. Also, some users seem to like the Cancel button when logging on.

Today I went in and shut down the six computers and reset the two machines that would not acess the network, this time I selected client for microsoft network. Well they both acessed the net work and each machine saw each other. Then I proceeded to do the same to the other four, well they wouldn't access the net, all the exact same settings. Ran out of time had to set them back to there original configuration which worked, am I confussed.

Have never used netBEUI???????

Are you using a router or ICS?

Nice Avatar, Bill!

NetBEUI - Netbios enhanced user interface

This is a non-routable broadcast-type protocol. It is self configuring using MAC addresses. Very simple to setup. It is a "chatty" protocol, but it should get the job done.

Another day an other dollar, Took and hooked up one my own boxes today and to my dismay couldn't get on the network or the internet. When I booted up my computer up comes a microsoft program chat box. I never had this program on my computer so I can only assume it came in from the net and some how has stoped me from getting on the net or internet and is it possible that this program is responsible for all that is wrong with this network.
