hey guys, I need to build another system and I need your opinion on upcoming hardware such as new CPUs by AMD (Palamino?) new MB and Chipsets and new RAM (DDR?)......if you can give me a link to the websites that talk about new H/D it would be greatly appreciated, and should I hold on until new CPU, MB, and/or RAM or go with currently available as the new ones will contain a lot of bugs until they will be ruled out, thanx a million
P.S. What are the plans of Nvidia? Do they have some new GPU coming out or some new kick-*** gear?
AMD will start releasing new processors based on .13 micron Palomino core somewhere in 3rd quarter. Besides more advanced techprocess, which will alllow higher speeds (beyond 2 GHz) with sugnifficant heat reduce, new chip will also enjoy more advanced architecture, better FPU, cache improvements and more. First Palomino will run at 1.7 GHz.
New hit of the year will probably be mobos based on new VIA KT266 chipset, with most anticipated features like 133 DDR FSB and DDR SDRAM support, pushing computers beyond todays bus and bandwidht limitation.
And regarding HD's, ATA/100 & 7200 RPM will be most common for this year and a year after, at least till Serial ATA (1.5 GB/s vs 100 MB/s of ATA/100) sees some daylight ...
nVIDIA releases new GPU, codename NV20, at 29 of February, all major vendors will produce cards based on this chip, which supposed to give SEVEN TIMES more performace than todays Ultra (in certain applications http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ) ... but also, in about half a year, ATI releases R200, which triples (!) performance of Radeon DDR ... R300 (which doubles performance of R200) will come at the end of the year http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I think, you'd better think what you need your computer for, and then do decisions regarding hardware to be purchased, coz you know, new things're being released all the time, making some "new" - "old" in a month, and the prices drop respectively ...
Sorry - no links, gotta go to work http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Best Regards ...
