I business associate (where's my spell check) and I are in the process of developing a program. I am going to have him copyright and patent it. We are going to need some help making it look professional for the market. Also I'm going to need some help and/or advise on how to have someone who is experienced in hosting it for resale. That is to post a downloadable demo version and sell the professional version.
I know this is available because I have purchased many games and programs in this manner.
Can anyone help?

maybe.
first, I don't think you patent programs, I think you copyright.
What does it do and what is it written in? Don't need to be specific, just broad overview. Should be fairly easy to make professional looking.
Setting up a small site and selling is fairly easy, though iffin it is viable, others will sell for you.

Okay, copyright only, I'm just trying to be cautious. I think I got a hot one and this is my first attempt to try to do something like this.
Its is a program that will calculate segment lengths in an ellipse. It is for a specific construction application and candidates for the product would also be specific, so it would really have to be extra professional looking.
I'll check, but I think its written in C and Visual Basic.
I may try to host the program myself for the time being.
btw, I've never copyrighted anything, can you direct me to what n the?

Once you finish the program it is copyrighted.
What we are advised to do here in the UK is post a copy of it to yourself, strongly sealed, via Recorded Delivery. That way you have a sealed copy that is date stamped.
It is only patent that you need to apply for. It probably isn't the greatest idea to tell the world your "hot" idea. And if that is all your program does, you aint going to be able to charge much, proffesional looking or not.
