it usually starts with someone posting a thread, something innocuous like

"AMD sucks goat nuts"
"Sysopt members are wussies"
or
"Die American imperialistic pigdogs!"

As has been said, the VAST majority of flames at Sysopt forums (remarkably small number that it is) are in exceptionally good humour! We aren't nasty people, and a lot of problems can be averted with a simple http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

A "flame" with regards to the internet, BBS systems, chat rooms, email, etc. is a communication (warranted or not) in which one person abuses, degredates, makes fun of, insults, or otherwise is offensive, with the purpose of directing the communication towards a certain individual or group.

Sometimes these "flames" communicate beliefs, feelings, emotions, or ideas in an inappropriate manner, even though they may be essentially correct. They are simply communications which are not professional or appropriate for the forum, and most often are a politically incorrect reaction to something the flamer was offended by, or that he/she wanted to instigate.

For example, rather than replying the way I have thus far, I could've have responded to your message with..... "quit asking stupid questions on this forum and wasting our time. If you don't know already what a flame is, pull your head out of your ***** and come back when your IQ is larger than your shoe size".

As a joke sometimes I'll e-mail the intellectually challenged people at work and start out the memo in a sorta normal manner and lead into a usless meaningless diatribe sorta like the mutter above..
