DVD technology, introduced in 1998 will not last as long as it's CD counterpart, and will soon be replaced in the near future. Why? because this new disc technology that uses holographic reading and writing is being in develope as you read this. And could actually pack more gigabyte per $. Instead of writing and reading in 2-D, the new technology writes data in holographic 3-D enableling the new disc to have multiple layers of disc surface to pack more data. Allowing a mere cd-size disc to pack as much data as 100 gigabytes or more. This is not BS, I'm pretty sure i read it somewhere. Does anyone have a better understanding of this new disk technology?

Yeah... DVDs are getting stricter by the days. Especially with that endless DVD burner war going on and that Red laser Vs. Blue laser war that is about to happen when Blue laser is use in new DVD burners... mostly for copyright protection, hence a dvd that is burned with blue laser can't play in a dvd player with red laser... How i hate this technology war... Can't we all just get along?...

Hmmm,,,, sound like Jedi Nike episode 9 ,, the lost shoes ,
Let’s wait and see in this up coming new disk technology, if this hit the market and I hope this will not end up like the Ls drive story .
Everything will be superceeded eventually. But if enough people have DVDs, it will stay around for a long time. Heck, VCDs are still available. But they'll fade as the cost of DVD players and the cost of production of DVDs goes down.
