I would like to network my two computers that are only 10 feet apart ( so my son and I can play each other on games ). But I was wondering if I can just go card to card or do I have to get a hub for this short distance. Thanks for any help.

Yes, You can go card to card. The item that needs to be addressed in this situation is the cable. Card-to-card requires a cross-over cable, not a standard patch cable.
