hi, on that blue chip in the middle of my fcpga 650 mhz cpu there seems to be a worn out like scratch on the edge of this blue chip as if it has been worn away exposing a silver metal like layer. what could be the possible consequences from this or what damage may it cause any other components
thanx

How did the scratch happen? If it came like that, heatsink it properly using suitable paste ( artic silver, silicon ) and try in a machine. There is nothing you can do to change that. It will either work or not. I doubt it will effect any other component.

All the best, hope it works, Justy.

As Justy said, there isn't a lot you can do to fix any scratches that may be present on your CPU core, and it will either work, or it will not. I suspect that it will.....

The scratch you spoke of, especially if on the edge, is probably more of a flaking/chipping of the outer silicon covering on the CPU core. Of course, if the damage is too great, it could adversly effect chip operation.

Seems like this sort of damage occurs mostly from heatsink installation/removal.

Then again, you might be lucky and it really is only a scratch of the blue covering on the CPU core.... Only way to tell is with a magnification.

Just take care when placing heatsinks on these new cores, so as not to crack/chip them, and you should be fine.

Good luck
