Using the clock frequency tab for my GeForce2 MX 400 I can only achieve 160 MHz (from default 140 MHz) on the memory clock and no adjustment of the core clock (system freezes).

I have flashed the BIOS on my Abit BX133-RAID (chipset Intel 440BX) using the latest update from Abit and my GeForce driver is up to date. I am running a Pentium III at 933 MHz.

I have tried to loosen things up with AGPset Configuration Utility but my benchmark is lower under 3DMark 2001 whichever settings I use. Highest score achieved is 2281. Any suggestions for tweaking ?

Welcome to SysOpt ! :)

Yes.
RivaTuner (http://www.nvworld.ru/downloads/rivatuner.zip).
Good luck :)

This is a fine program, test it! I could overclock a GeF 256 both core and memory for over 25%! Only use better cooling for the card, if pushing high. nVidia chips are hot, remember it!

The default is 140? Hmm, my card is a GF2MX400 too, and it comes with 166MHz for RAM from the factory, OC'able to 210 simply w/o any fan !!!

Yup my default too is 166, and its okay up to bout 190.

As for what the guys say - indeed Riva Tuner rocks, it is truly an essential download.

As for your seemingly low clock card speeds, im taking a stab in the dark here, maybe ND or someone with a bit more knowledge would be better to say, but could the drivers be registering the speeds wrong??

Beats me
The only bug in Det drivers (related to clock speeds) is report of DDR bus on MX card, but it's a well known issue and RivaTuner seems to identify it correctly.
The only MX clocked @143Mhz core/memory is MX100 card, with 32bit (!) memory bus.
What make is your MX400, Brooke48 ?

Glad I saw this post. I was just looking for info on how to OC my GE2mx400. When I plugged in Riva tuner, it showed my card as core 174 and memory 133. When using this utility, id it just a case of bumping the core up, or the core and memory, or what?

ND, to make your knowledge deeper, the DDR is reported not on all GF2MX400 cards, but only with some onboard RAM configuration. If yoy want to know more, then read the documentation to the RivaTuner.

Thanks for the posts, guys. My MX card is stamped with:
"NVIDIA CORPORATION 180-P0038-0000-C
M/N: SP6800T 32mb
S010025897
BP MLL E186014 94V-0"

The Bios version is 3.11.00.07 and the Nvidia driver is 4.13.01.2942

Another thing - I ran a benchmark with 3DMark 2001 and the system details showed 0 video memory - what happened to the 32 Mb ??? Could be insignificant to the real issue of low clock speeds, but....................

I'll try out Riva T as advised - still leaves me wondering about the default values. Advice on Bios settings would be useful (BX133-RAID).

Please define "bug" for me, Kurylo ;)
I wrote the phreaking documentation  :D

ND, you mean a bug in RAM recognition??? Here it is:

Q: RivaTuner reports wrong clock frequencies on my MX400. It shows 200MHz/334MHz instead of 200MHz/166MHz. The Detonator control panel gives me the same result. How can I fix it?
A: This problem is caused by the hardware feature of the clock frequency generator, which can be hardwired to halve PLL clock frequency. Usually this feature is used on the boards equipped with DDR memory, but it is also used by some hardware vendors on GeForce2 MX200/MX400 boards with 4Mx16 SDR memory modules. In this case you'll be able to overclock your display adapter safely, just remember that double clock frequency is displayed.

If you mean a word "bug" then as far as I remember it comes from the early ages of computer birth, when they were hundreds of cubical meters in volume and added 2 by 2 for an hour - a lamp age.
Then some old mainframe (I do not remember which exactly, but it's name is well-known) began to malfunction. After digging in wires and lamps, the technicians found a bug (an insect) in their computer which resulted the failure.
After these times all the malfunctions, failures or disfunctions of sny type commected to computers were called "a bug".

NM Kurylo, all I wanted to say is that I know it happens not with all MX videocards, hence the "bug" ;)

i used the RivaTuner.. it detect my GeFORCE2 MX400's core clock is 175.5 & memory core 166.5. So if i want to overlock it... what should i set up to?

Go slowly - bit by bit, in 5mhz increments, id only reccomend upping the memory as GPU dont gie you that much.

then run 2dmark 2k1 or a 3d game etc, if the machine dont crash/ you get image problems go back and push up another 5mhz...until the machine becomes unstable or you get image problems, then drop it back by a few Mhz.

you should be able to get the mem to about 190MHz - 210MHz depending upon card

Ah yes...the geforce 2 mx400. **** i overclocked that thing like a rented mule. I have a geforce2mx400 64mb. Default settings were 175Mhz core, 167mhz ram.

You can't oc the ram for **** without getting visual imperfections, the core on the other hand, is a little better. You'll need to mod your card if you want to get anywhere with overclocking it. I installed a pentium 1 fan onto my geforce heatsink and overclocked it to 230mhz core, 180mhz ram. I fealt the heatsink and it was very nice. Right now i am at 175Mhz because my current processor isn't supported by my motherboard or power supply, so i need all the resources i can get.

BTW- What you can do is get old heasinks, cut them up, and stick them to each individual ram module, then overclock. You can get a lot more speed out of the ram without damaging it from hea that way :)

Iuse the RivaTuner i set it to 185 core & 175memory clock.. then i click Test then Apply but after i restart my pc and then i go to RivaTuner and found out my video card's speed get back to default speed..

**Hint**

Make sure you check the apply overclockign settings at startup box :p

OpK Chowdy, actually, you can OC GPU's RAM without the "visual imperfections" - that depends on the quality of RAM and it's rated speed.
I've managed to OC my GF2MX400's RAM from default 166MHz to 205-210MHz !!! And without any bugs in graphics, 100% stable (and without any HS/F on RAM). And that is because the manyfacturer of my card (Abit) used 5ns RAM chips instrad of 6ns ones.

My Geforce 2 MX seems to be stable at 200core/180mem. I've tried to increase mem clock > 180, the screen degrades i.e. dots are showing...

I got my old gf2 mx200 (175/166) to (210/190) with my old 40mm abit cooling fan..just screwed it into the heatsink and off we go!
